With the prices of movie tickets going up and up, staying home to watch is often the only choice. In Canada I have to pay $9.50 to see a movie and don’t even get me started on the refreshments. I’m not saying it’s not worth it because most of the movies are. Just now instead of going to see a double feature I have to stick to just one movie.

At least when I watch a movie at home I can pause it when I need a bathroom break and I don’t have to worry about expensive popcorn and drinks. It’s much cheaper at home!

All the movie rental stores around me a closing out. Pretty soon I’m going to have to drive just as far to rent a movie as I am to see one on the big screen!

I feel the need to start going to the theater again because so many people are downloading movies and making illegal copies. You need to support the film makers every once in a while.

Another Reason: Classic Movies/Older Movies can be enjoyed with theater quality. You don’t even have to be agoraphobic, with the number of people in the theater you are usually guaranteed to have someone be inconsiderate. I go to the theater when I just can’t wait to see a film, which seems to be becoming rarer these days.

I love going to the theater, but if I went to see every movie that I wanted to it be a few $100’s a month. I just recently installed a projector with a 9 ft. wide screen & 7.1 surround sound so its just like going to the theater now.

The ninth reason (inconsiderate audience members) is my main peeve.

For example, last year, I had a bad experience at a midweek 10:00 pm showing of The Hurt Locker that seemed to encompass every kind of annoyance, from people talking on cellphones to kids running in the aisles (…who takes a kid to a late-night showing of a movie like this?!).

Having said all that, perhaps the worst thing was the people texting on their phones. I could almost tune out the people who were talking, but the glowing screens from their phones as they texted was extremely distracting. It drew my eyes away from the big screen. Argh!!!

Another reason: at home, there are no young kids that talk all the time during the movie because they don’t understand what is on the screen…

I’ve always enjoyed watching movies at home and you have just given me so many more reasons to keep doing it.
It’s specially true of having to hold youself before going to the washrooms…and then having to wait in line.
