4. I’m gonna go with the grandmother from True Blood. Like the grandmother, my mom is exceedingly generous and kind, and never has a bad word for or about anyone. She is very open-minded, and is always accepting of people, regardless of their various faults. To her, a person’s background, religion, race, sexuality is completely irrelevant when determining if someone is a good person or not. Those she loves, she does so fiercely. And she is very protective of her family.

5. I think I already described in the above paragraph why my mom is so special! But I’ll also add that she will put the happiness of almost anyone before her own. I don’t always like that, cos I want her to be happy too, but I certainly respect her for it. My mom is the greatest, and I love her more than I can say!

My mom is like Roseanne Barr in Roseanne. She is not afraid to tell us if something we do is stupid, and is about as energetic. She loves her family and would do anything for them but is laid back enough to talk to. She worked all my life to make sure that we could have anything we needed, she always provides for us and our kids now and is always there to listen to our troubles, but she is also ready to tell us if an idea we have won’t work or if something that happened was something that we deserved. She made sure to tell us we needed to do our homework or to clean the dishes or laundry, she wanted us to grow up to be self sufficient and I think it worked out for the best. She has two daughters and a son, and a husband who would rather spend time in his garage then dealing with the family. My parents never gave us everything that we wanted so that they would not spoil us, and it worked, now I do the same for my kids, I show them the value of what we spend our money on. I always wished for leave it to Beavers mom while I grew up but am happy with who I have!

4. My Mom reminds of Elyse Keaton from Family Ties and Lorelai Gilmore from The Gilmore Girls. She is like Lorelai because she stayed at home when we were younger and had her hands full looking after the kids and was almost like a single parent. My Dad was in the Navy, so he was gone for months at a time and the parenting was left up to her while he was away. When he left the Navy, and the kids were all in school she went back to work similar to the television character Elyse Keaton. She always managed to juggle her work, and her kids no matter what was going on. She was at all the parent teacher meetings, for all 4 kids every year. She was at all the sports events for all the kids, whether it was baseball, basketball, soccer, gymnastics or volleyball. She has a fantastic relationship with all 4 of her kids and her 8 grandkids and 2 great grandkids.
She is now widowed, so now she reminds of Sophia on the Golden Girls – she lives with me and we have lots of fun together. Now she spends all her time volunteering with the church, and homeless groups in the city and with low income families.

5. I would want my Mom to win because she puts everyone ahead of herself. She is one of the most kind, giving people I know. She is there for every one of her kids, grandkids, friends or neighbours any time they need anything. Her favourite thing to do just for “her” is to watch movies, so this is the absolute perfect Mother’s Day Gift for her.

- I would say that my mom is definitely like Esme from the Twilight Series. She is loving caring and always there me and my siblings.

- With all that she does with work and taking my brother to baseball practices, she never has any time for herself. Even when she is tired to the point of exhaustion she still manages to squeeze in some time for little things. I love my mom for that, what would I do without her…. I seriously do not know. That is why I think my mom should win this prize.

- “Babe” is about a piglet who wants to be a sheepdog. After some initial setbacks, he succeeds in his goal and wins the sheepdog trials for his owner, Farmer Hoggett.

- It’s a heartwarming story about overcoming obstacles. basically, the premise is to “dream big”.

- After a bit of thought, I’d have to say that my Mom is most similar to Marion Cunningham, AKA Richie’s Mom on “Happy Days” (or as the Fonz calls her “Mrs. C”). Actually, the similarities between Marion and my Mom are somewhat startling. Like Marion, my Mom started out in the working world, but quit her job to become stay-at-home Mom and homemaker after her children were born. In her home life, my Mom is a great cook, fastidious about keeping a tidy home, and well-liked by all of her neighbours. Just like Marion. Then, paralleling Marion again, my Mom went back to work once her kids were nearly grown (although their jobs were different — my Mom became an office manager, while Marion became a waitress at Al’s Drive-In). Marion and my Mom also share several interests, such as making baked goods for a women’s club, volunteering at a local museum, and making various crafts for a local church’s bazaar and flea market.

You know, it seems kind of funny now, but I used to think that having a Mom like Marion Cunningham would be really cool. Well, it turns out that my own Mom was just as cool. I guess I’m a lucky guy.

5. What is it about your mom that makes her special & you would want her to win?
- Would it be too corny to say that my Mom is perfect and that I want the best (in everything) for her? I suppose that most people would say the same thing… (she is your Mom, after all!). But, as I said earlier, I’m very lucky to have a Mom like her and hugely appreciate what she did (and still does) for my family. She worked so hard and sacrificed in so many ways to give us a good start in life. I owe everything that I am to her.

Her favorite movie of all time is Funny Girl.

The movie is about Fanny Brice, a singer, as well as Broadway and film star who falls in love with a gambler. And the ups and downs of her life and her love.

I haven’t asked, but I think it’s because she loves Barbara Streisand, and she especially loves Omar Sharif, and who could blame her.

My mom is a lot like Shirley MacLaine’s character, Aurora, in Terms of Endearment. Not that she’s prudish or even overbearing. But she’s always had a sort of hard, practical edge to her, that kept her from being a pushover or in any way seeming weak. But somehow in spite of that, we always knew that we were loved, and loved fiercely.

She never took grief off of anyone, including my father, and yet she was always there to give a hug or kiss when you needed one. On the practical side, she was the one to sit down and talk to each of us about birth control and offered to take any of us at any time to get on the pill, which back then was very foward thinking. And yet when my sister ended up getting pregnant anyway she didn’t make her feel any worse, she just talked the situation out and decided on the solution that was best for everyone at the time, including the baby.

She never failed to surprise me. When I thought she’d kill me for some really large offense, she’d just hug me. And when I did something and blew it off as unimportant, she’d be right there to set me straight. She was and is a rock in my life, just like Aurora was to Emma.

5.)What is it about your mom that makes her special & you would want her to win?

She was different from everyone else’s mom that I knew in that she refused to conform to the traditional, emotional role model for women. She did what she wanted, when she wanted, even when my dad disapproved. Not in an in your face kind of way, just as a matter of fact. She was who she was.

And just when you thought you’d never see the traditional mother in her, out would pop June Clever, when you hurt yourself, or were rejected by the boy you had a crush on.

I think that I owe my independence to my mom, and due to that, I have the best of both worlds in my own life. I have a family that I love dearly, but I’m not the chief cook and bottle washer, although I do those things, I’m not defined by them. And I have a partner who shares the responsibilities with me, because he loves and respects me, as much as I love and respect him.

My mom taught me, that you can be unconventional and still be a good mother and partner and for that I owe her the world.

Because she met my dad when she was on vacation in London, so the movie reminds her of how she felt when they met :)

A: I’ve always thought she’s like Monica in Friends… Because she’s always happy to help and do things for other people expecting nothing in return, that’s something I specially love about her, she knows how to be very sweet and strict at the same time (which is kind of scary at times), and because she’s always cleaning, and she gets nervous when she’s done or we’re helping lol … but in the end she’s a fantastic woman, an awesome wife and mommy :)

5: What is it about your mom that makes her special & you would want her to win?
A: I’d like her to win because I think she deserves to have a little something extra just because the way is… she gives her 110% at everything she does and even at her 55 years of age she knows how to fight to get what she wants… because even though she does a LOT of stuff (works, cleanes the house, gets groceries, works out, goes to church everyday…), she has found a balance between her own stuff and her family that keeps her and us very happy… and because she’s just my best friend :), she makes me want to come home to see her every weekend, I can tell her anything I want, and she always has the best advices, that’s weird lol :)
