scottyRight from the start of his initial audition, Scotty McCreery blew the judges’ way with his voice that was way beyond his tender years. Since then the fresh faced country boy has crooned his way through every show, gaining fans along the way. Then on Wednesday night, millions of viewers watched as the 17-year-old student from Garner was crowned the winner of ‘American Idol’ season 10.

Unlike some in the show who chopped and changed between genres to try and impress the judges with their versatility, Scotty stick to his guns and his commitment to country music never wavered. During the section dedicated to Elton John songs, young Scotty took the little known ‘Country Comfort’ and effortlessly made it his own. Jennifer Lopez told him after the performance that his instincts about what to sing were spot on.

As well as his amazing voice, Scotty also had an endearing ‘aw shucks’ attitude and a genuine teenage goofy grin. He saw off all the competition, including jazz loving Californian Casey Abrams, the wailing rocker James Durbin from Santa Cruz and the sultry Haley Reinhart from Illinois. He was up against the 16 year old fellow country lover Lauren Alaina in the final, who the judges actually seemed to prefer in the sing off.
