While we have been subjected to such comedy sitcoms this week including the horrible and way over hyped Two and a Half Men (what, they couldn’t do all of this in a one hour premier!) a show that is premiering tonight on ABC is called Suburgatory.
The plot is pretty straightforward. A recently divorced dad (played by Jeremy Sisto, late of the now defunct Law and Order) and Jane Levy as his daughter Tessa, leave the city life behind and move to the suburbs.
The reason behind this sudden move to the burbs…a box of condoms that good old dad found in his daughter’s bedroom. Jane’s thoughts about all of this can be summed up in one sentence “He pulled me out of school, bubble-wrapped my life and threw it into the back of a moving truck.”
This show will have the advantage of being in the middle of ABC’s Wednesday night powerhouses “The Middle” at 8pm, and “Modern Family” at 9, so Suburgatory will reap the benefits of that lineup, but only for just so long. The show will eventually have to prove that’s it’s actually funny and not just another wanna be sitcom comedy such as CBS’s “Two Broke Girls,” whose first episode was very funny, but has lost its attraction after its second airing this past Monday evening.
The clip for this show is pretty funny and actually has some humorous moments between father and daughter. And one very funny moment has a new neighbor proclaiming that she is bringing over a pot-roast and that dad George should inform his wife…to which he replies that he does not have a wife.
And that little admission is heard all around the little cul-de sac where the Altman’s are now residing and the chase is on for all the single moms in this area.
Suburgatory premieres on Wednesday at 8:30 pm on ABC.
