music technologyTechnology has continued to grow even faster than many thought possible – from the explosion of the Internet, to the rise of the social network, and the continued trend of mobile tech, it seems that technology is everywhere. The entertainment industy is usually at the forefront of this, whether they like it or not, and when a new invention comes out, the first to test it out is that of the artist.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, long known for not only their great musical stylings, but that of their on and off stage antics, have embraced technology in a new way. Their newest video of “Look Around” is completely interactive, allowing watchers to go back and forth between the video’s four panels (with band members in each) by using their keyboard. The Chili Peppers certainly aren’t the first, nor will they be the last, of a growing trend of musicians who are using technology to not only promote but interact with fans.

In the summer of 2011, the band Jane’s Addiction put an entire concert up for the viewing public. Fans could not only be live at the physical show, but could also see the concert live on video giant YouTube. Social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, were also involved, bringing together fans from everywhere. And don’t forget search engine Google, who have done great doodles in honor of musicians, such as the interactive guitar to celebrate Les Paul and the great Freddy Mercury tribute.

This is certainly a much better and more appreciated look at how to blend music, movies, and technology together, instead of the constant fighting that’s done to seemingly keep the two apart. Certainly with the recent downfall of the SOPA/PIPA acts, it seemed as though the two could never see eye to eye.

Let’s hope that more of these interesting creations continue.
