“America’s Got Talent”, “American Idol” and “the X Factor: have made their mark on the entertainment industry by promoting and showcasing new talent. Many of the judges are proven money makers who have worked they way up through the ranks by way of hard work and dedication. Both “American Idol’s” Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, and “America’s Got Talent’s” Sharon Osborne have paid their dues. They have been in the business long enough to make a competent judge of up and coming new talent. The newest additions to the X Factor’s judges line up, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, are relatively new to the food chain.
When Simon Crowell broke away from “American Idol” he bragged that his new show would snag many of its competitor’s viewers. When that didn’t happen quite as planned, he cleaned house, literally firing most of his staff and deciding to start from scratch. From producers to judges, no one’s job was secure. With both of Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger gone, he chose to replace them with current chart toppers. No surprise there, they will definitely bring in the viewers. The only problem is neither of them have much experience in evaluating other talent. Demi Lovato is still a teenager who is just now getting used to the ever widening circle of fame her music has exposed her too and Britney Spears is more known for her eccentricities than her judge of character. Both are good at what they do, but their mettle as judges has yet to have been tested.
It seems Simon is grasping at straws to give his show an edge. Instead it may become the Jerry Springer of talent shows if Britney decides to have a meltdown. Lovato, on the other hand, may be Crowell’s saving grace. Her down to earth attitude may be just what is needed to take the edge off of Britney’s wild side.
