Two weeks ago, actor Matthew McConaughey got married to his longtime lover, Camila Alves. Then last week, his box office hit, “Magic Mike” was released and played to sold-out audiences of swooning women. Now this week, the 42-year-old, six-pack flaunting actor has announced that he and his wife, Camila Alves, are expecting their third child.
He made the announcement about the pregnancy via a Twitter message to his fans on the 4th of July. McConaughey and Alves, a Brazilian model and purse designer, already are the parents of son Levi, 3, and daughter Vida, 2. The couple first met in 2006, and they were engaged on Christmas Day in 2011. They were wed in a ceremony at their home in Austin, Texas in front of their family and a number of their celebrity pals on June 10.
About the only thing that could put just the teeniest downer on McConaughey’s life in the last three weeks is that “Magic Mike” was not the number one film at the box office this past weekend. That honor went to “Ted,” the story of a raunchy teddy bear that starred Mark Wahlberg. That film took in an estimated $54.1 million.
“Magic Mike” was second, however. This film, which was reportedly inspired by co-star Channing Tatum’s experiences as a male stripper, pulled in a strong $39.2 million. Even though it was second, the film did better than industry expectations. Not surprisingly, “Magic Mike,” which featured many shots of oil-covered stripping men, played before audiences that were estimated to be approximately 73 percent female.
In “Magic Mike,” McConaughey plays the strip club’s owner, Dallas, with an oily, snake-like charm. Although older than the other buff men gyrating in the film, the actor — who is known for spending enormous amounts of time shirtless in his day-to-day life — was able to strip with the best of them.
