Fans of the multi-talented singer, songwriter and actress Demi Lovato are embracing the starlet like never before, showing tremendous support for the pint-sized powerhouse whose private struggles became very public two years ago. The beautiful 19-year-old has fought her way back from excessive partying and several forms of self-harming behavior including bulimia, alcohol and drug use and cutting before finally entering and successfully completing rehab. Her time off has given her the opportunity to refocus and to re-emerge as a stronger, healthier young woman… one whose victory over struggle has many young women paying lots of attention.
She couldn’t be happier.
Lovato recently granted an interview to Self Magazine (the issue is due out in August 2012) where she explains–for the first time publicly–what drove her to begin cutting herself. She explained: “There were times I felt so anxious, almost like I was crawling out of my skin – that if I didn’t do something physical to match the way I felt inside, I would explode.” She went on to explain that she had no fear of consequences while she was cutting herself, but says that reaching out for help truly saved her.
The now all-grown-up Disney star is sharing with women everywhere that happiness is a choice. She practices meditation, making time for herself and limited her use of her cell phones as a road to healing. Lovato also says she began surrounding herself with more positive individuals and making better choices to deal with her emotions. Her story, which outlines her newfound power and strength, is currently being belted out through song, demonstrating a nearly unmatched vocal ability for anyone in her age group. Her recent hit song “Skyscraper” seems to chronicle her struggles… and her comeback.
She recently took a spot on Simon Cowell’s “X-Factor” US alongside Cowell, Britney Spears and L.A. Reid. In this role, she mentors other young hopefuls while having the chance to demonstrate her powerful vocal ability, charm and humor.
What’s sure is that in every role she takes on, Demi Lovato remains highly talented and truly inspirational.
